Baobab Tree – 2011

Baobab Tree – 2011

Project Description

When my son graduated from junior school in 2011, the school asked me to mosaic a remembrance piece for his year. The choice of the piece’s subject matter was to reflect the education of the particular group of boys who had graduated all the way from kindergarten.

The bold tree is the African Baobab being both resilient and sturdy, giving homage to this particular graduation year. The multiple mirrors reflect each and every individual in the grade, as without the ability to shine independently the group would not be able to stand out so proudly together.

The piece was presented to the school at the leaver’s function for the grade and is now a permanent feature in the entrance hall of the main school theatre, brought to fervent life with colored spotlights in the evenings.
